My personal message:

Thank you for so much for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online - it really is very easy!

As many of you know, my mum passed away in September 2006 after a terrible battle with the disease and losing her has left a huge void in my life. I miss her dreadfully and think about her every day.

Obviously, the early diagnosis and effective treatment of cancer has become a cause close to my heart and in the months that Mum was ill I found out as much as I could about ovarian cancer and was shocked at the statistics.

With 6,600 women diagnosed every year in the UK, Ovarian cancer is the biggest gynaecological killer and Britain has one of the worst survival rates in the developed world with only 28% of sufferers surviving beyond 5 years. What's more, there is still no effective screening program.

And I have an even more compelling reason to keep supporting this fantastic event. Since losing Mum, we have discovered that it is highly likely that there is a genetic link in my family predisposing the females to ovarian and/or breast cancer. I now regularly attend the Family History clinic at Liverpool Women's hospital for screening. And having a 5-year old little girl is a huge motivation for me - hopefully, by supporting the work of Cancer Research UK, Lauren won't have to grow up worried about the statistics.

After all, breast cancer survival rates have improved significantly over the last 10 years or so and this is mainly due to increased awareness and earlier detection. Please help me to change the awful figures associated with ovarian cancer survival.

Events like Run 10k are an important way in which Cancer Research UK is able to fund its life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me now you could help more people survive cancer.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, at least an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you when you tick the Gift Aid box.

So please help me to make a difference and sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your continued support.
