Q&A: Marathon tips from a first-time runner
Camille, who is an account manager for our Company Fundraising tool*, is practising what she preaches and running the London marathon for the first time this year.

Which cause are you raising money for?
Whizz-Kidz, an amazing charity that provides disabled children and young people with essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment.
What are your top training tips?
Buy a foam roller and use it before and after you run. It will help eliminate knots in your muscles and helps prevent injury.
Also, try different energy gels on your runs to see how your body will react and how you feel - don’t wait until the day of the race!
And your fundraising tips?
If you don’t have time to plan a big fundraising event, plan a little event each month. Start early – don’t leave it until the last minute.
I did a cake sale on “Blue Monday” and instead of cash used JustTextGiving to take donations. Ask your friends if they will help you bake goods for the cake sale. Don’t specify an amount per cake, let your co-workers choose the amount to donate. I’ve found people are generous (as long as your cakes are delicious).
I also hosted a Filipino dinner for a close group of friends and raised over £200 in one evening.
What’s your favourite part of fundraising on JustGiving?
I like how integrated it is with Facebook and Twitter. I can use “Facebook share” to tell people about the marathon and provide updates on my training progress. Friends and family can share that they’ve donated – it helps get the word out to their networks and can also add an element of competition.
